Lago Verde Wilderness Resort is located in the heart of Los Alerces National Park. Enclosing an area of 263.000 hectares the park is located in the Chubut province, in the Patagonia Argentina. It was created in 1937 with the aim of protecting the last redoubt where one of the oldest trees on Earth, the alerce or lahuan, can still be found.
The Park holds many lakes, big rivers, crystal water brooks and millennial forests of maitenes, coihues cipreses, arrayanes and notros. Different species of birds, mammals, trees and plants are part of this unique environment in one of the few virginal forests remaining in the world. Cormorants, owls, chucaos, kaikenes, foxes, pudúes, huemules and many animal species find here shelter and nourishment. Lago Verde is the heart of this young but eternal forest.
Some of Patagonia’s finest waters are close to the lodge, such as the Rivadavia River, just minutes away. The Rivadavia, Arrayanes, Frei and Carrileufú Rivers, the Canal Spring Creek and the quiet waters of the Verde, Menéndez, Kruger and Futalaufquen Lakes are some of the prime waters to fish. The fishing programs may include the Esquel area with the Rio Grande, Arroyo Pescado and many other worldwide known waters. The most experienced guides of the country, as Raúl San Martín, Andrés Muller, and Rolo Pradere will ensure a productive and friendly trip.
The Rivers: Most National Park waters are for fly fishing only and catch and release is mandatory. The Rivadavia, Arrayanes, Frei and Carrileufú Rivers are transparent and powerful streams and a challenge to every fly fisherman. Average trout size is 3/4 pounds but it nor rare to get some 6/7 pounds trophy. The lakes may be fished too and are very productive. Although lake fishing is not so attractive to many fly fishermen, you will be surprised with the great variety of fishing environments and the challenges of fishing in those transparent waters with a small dry fly. These Rivers are to be floated and waded. Outside the Park, in the Esquel area, the Pescado Creek and the Futalaufú or Grande Rivers are world famous waters worth fishing. They are commonly fished from the lodge or based directly in Esquel. The species in the area are the rainbow, brown and brook trout and landlocked atlantic salmon. |
The fish: Rainbow, brown and brook trout and landlocked atlantic salmon are the species to fish in the area.
The Fishing: LVWR fly fishing programs include transfer in and out Esquel in adequate and comfortable vehicles (2-hour drive). LVWR Guides will use inflatable rafts, rigged with rowing frames, for some of the rivers (Rivadavia, Arrayanes, Carrileufú, Frei), motor boats for small lakes and some rivers like the Futaleufú, and larger boats with powerful engines for the big waters of Los Alerces National Park. No personal fishing or wading equipment is provided but in case of loss or accidental damage, LVWR can supply the needs.
A typical day starts at the lodge. Our head guide will meet you after breakfast, inform you about the day’s fishing and wading conditions and all question will be answered. Either by boat or vehicle, most of our fishing destinations are reached within an hour. At lunch time, guides will set up comfortable camp chairs and tables. Also if necessary they will provide shelter for rain, sun or wind while food and drinks are served. After an intensive day on the river; lake or spring creek, and back in the lodge, drinks and appetizers will be waiting for you before dinner.
The Guides: Our guides Raúl San Martín, Andrés Muller, Rolo Pradere and Lu Warner are experienced people who we are absolutely sure meet our high standards. If you would like casting instruction, either guide is available. The guides will take care of your safety, comfort and fishing success. We are strictly devoted to catch and release, barbless hook angling. We make no exceptions. All fish, injured or not, must be released as gently as possible.
The Lodge: The bungalows and restaurants allow the visitor to become part of the surrounding nature, offering magnificent views of the forest and the lake. The three main bungalows have two bedrooms, two bathrooms, Jacuzzi, living room with a stone fireplace and a private deck.
The two double bungalows have living room with a salamander and bedroom in suite. Bungalows are not shared so you will have space, comfort and solitude. Dinner can be served in the gourmet restaurant or delivered to the bungalows where a private dinner in a candlelit table can be arranged. Guests will enjoy natural food, with aromas and flavors of "Los Alerces" district.
