Fly Fishing Soul Guided Trip:

Río Juramento
Salta, Argentina

<< BACK

The River: The Juramento is a median course river with a variable width of 50 to 100 mt, transparent waters, slightly brownish, with successive pools and currents. The margins are usually covered by fallen and dragged by the current tree trunks, which make fishing far more interesting, tactic and difficult.

The Fishing: There are no fishing regulations but ours are fly fishing, catch and release only programs. The water is so warm that many fishermen simply enter without their waders. Anyhow we recommend bringing them and deciding for your selves.

The upper wading sections are spectacular; the river is shallow and can be waded with no difficulties. The downstream section of El Tunal is floated and the fishing is simplified, especially the casting, as an average cast from the raft can reach the 10 mt. The dorado flies are big and heavy so we recommend a #8 rod with a floating line.

The fishing demands high concentration, “a Juramento attitude” as they say in the region, as the bite happens in a sudden, unexpected and furious way. Everything depends on our attitude and serenity when nailing or losing the dorado we are looking for. So, be prepared for lots of bites, some nails, and just a few catches, but what a fish! A typical day begins early in the morning, after breakfast the guides will drive you to the river, approximately and hour away.

The floating itself takes 7 to 9 hours depending on the section and the biting intensity of the day. At noon you will have lunch at the riverside, and have an hours rest. At the end of the day the guide will take you to the hotel in the near town of Joaquín V. González.

The fish: The Dorado is the fish, the tiger of the river, and the Juramento is the river to find the dorado of your life! The bites and opportunities will be abundant during the day, but only a few of these will be nailed and even fewer caught. A big dorado is a furious and strong animal that will take your equipment and your capacity to the edge.

The Guides: Our guides are the Juramento fly fishing team; a Group of long trajectory professionals, pioneer of Juramento´s fly fishing.

Lodging: The program includes accommodation in a hotel in Joaquín V. González, the river nearest town. It is a simple and comfortable hotel with all the necessary services. There are other alternatives to it in the same town or in Las Lajitas, an hour farther. Breakfast is served in the hotel. At noon the guides will take care of lunch, sandwiches fruits and drinks. For dinner there are many alternatives near to the chosen hotels.

Travel: To get to Juramento river you need to fly to Buenos Aires and make round ticket reservations to Salta´s capital. Fishermen from abroad will be arriving at Ezeiza´s international airport and must direct themselves to the domestic airport, Aeroparque, to catch their flight to Salta. The arrival schedule may allow catching the flight on the same day, but is also possible to overnight in Buenos Aires and fly the next morning. One of our guides will meet you en Salta´s airport and drive you to the hotel or river to start the journey.

Program: Program duration is flexible and for each fishermen to decide. Minimum duration is three fishing days (three nights).

Salta´s Capital: Salta City is one Argentina’s oldest city and it preserves its colonial past in its architecture. Visiting the city, its historic circuit and introduce yourself in its rhythm is something we recommend as a complement to the fishing trip. One or two nights could be enough.

Season: From March 15th to December 15th. Fishing is forbidden during the summer.

Rates:
U$S 400 per person per day
U$S 2.200 per person per week (6 fishing days)

Included: Rates includes transfer in, out from Salta, local transfers, guided fishing (one guide every two fishermen), hotel accommodation, breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Not included: Airport tax, fishing license, equipment, flies, strong drinks, gratuities, cigars.

IMPORTANT: The program is of median difficulty, requires a good physical state and a certain casting ability. Besides summer months (December, January and February) the climate is template and the days are sunny and humid, but as it’s usual in the rainforest, there are occasional intense rains. During the summer it is hot and it rains a lot so the challenge is bigger… but the dorados are there, happily swimming in the warmer water.
