Fly Fishing Soul Guided Trip:

Paraná River, Itatí

<< BACK

The River: In Itatí the Paraná river runs east west, turning suddenly to the south few kilometers downstream, in Paso de la Patria. It has a wide course with few big islands.

The fish: The fish you will be fishing are the following:

- Dorado the acrobatic and powerful tiger of the river. The average fish is about 3 to 4 kg but it is possible to get a monster over 10 kg in each trip.

- Pirá Pitá, it is a fish of the Paraná river basin of a high sporting value and as it takes dry flies its fishing is becoming more and more popular, the average fish is around 1kg but you may get one around 4 kg.

- Pacú: the Pacú is a forager and combative fish. Its fishing technique has developed in the last year and requires specific flies.

The Fishing: A typical day starts early in the morning. Most of fishing destinations are reached by boat in less than 1 hr. Peto will pick up you at the hotel and transfer to the port, talking about fishing conditions, any and all questions will be answered. At lunch the guides will set table and chairs.

We recommend # 6 and #8 weight rods, the first one for the Pirá Pitá and the second for the Dorado, mainly because of the fly size you will be using for this fish and the difficulty to cast it in windy conditions. Usually you will be fishing with a floating line but you shall have an extra spool with a sinking 150 or 200 gr line. Lines shall be tropical as the weather is warm.

The Guides: Our guide is Peto, a man knowing the river better than anybody else, having fished it all its way down. Peto has sailed the big river in rafts and catamarans from the Esteros de Iberá to Esquina and from Paso de la Patria to Buenos Aires, a route of more than de 1000 km. Peto speaks English and manages quite well Italian, French and Portuguese. He and the rest of the team are skillful professionals knowing the river better than everybody. They will satisfy all your expectations and take care of your safety and fishing success. Peto and Fly fishing Soul are committed with catch and release, we make no exceptions. Every fish injured or not must be gently released.

Accomodation: The program includes either accommodation in Peto´s house or in one of the town hotels. Peto´s house and7or the hotels are simple, comfortable and clean, having all necessary services. And cooking at Peto´s house is excellent. The other alternative is to stay at Puerto Rzepecki, less than 1 hr from Itatí. At lunch the guides will serve lunch, sandwiches, fruits and beverages. And for dinner there are also some alternatives close to the hotels.

Travel: From Buenos Aires reservations for round tickets to Resistencia (or Corrientes) should be made. International flights arrive at Ezeiza International Airport, but you will fly to Resistencia (or Corrientes) from Aeroparque, the domestic airport of Buenos Aires city. It will be necessary to overnight in the city and take the domestic flight in the morning. Peto or a Fly Fishing Soul representative will be expecting you at the airport and will transfer you to the hotel, one hour drive from the airport.
